Claves are traditionally used in Carribean, African and Brazilian music, often used to play a repeating rhythm throughout a piece. To produce a crisp, bright sound, hold one of the claves lightly in your non-dominant hand with just the tips of your fingers and thumb. This should create a resonating chamber as you strike with the other clave in your dominant hand.
