Product code: P690G

Friction Drive Printing Presses. Plate size 500 x 700mm.

These well made presses make light work of all kinds of pressure printing such as intaglio and relief printing in particular; lino, letterpress, etching plates, and wooden blocks. The machines are professionally manufactured from cast aluminium and fitted with 80mm diameter steel pressure rollers giving a press force of 1000kg. Each press is fitted with a gearbox working to ratio 4:1 which makes the handle turn more easily.

The distance between the top roller and the plate bed can be adjusted to a maximum of 18mm allowing thicker etching plates/wood blocks to be used with this press. Requests for a 40mm capacity can be accommodated as a special order, please contact us for a quotation. Each press is supplied with a plate bed and felt blanket and four bolt holes for bench top fitting. The correct downward pressure of the top roller is the reason why the plate bed moves through the press as it makes contact with the lower roller.

Using master off-cuts which are the same depth as your print plate, which run down both sides of the plate bed, is vital to ensure that the roller runs smoothly over the plate if you intend to do collagraphy so that the downward pressure of the roller doesn't flatten the collagraph.

Oiling or greasing the moving parts of the press from time to time is vital to keep it running smoothly. Oil the roller bearings by using the oil holes on both sides of the body of the press near the lower roller and the oil holes in the bearing stones of the top roller. Oil or grease all moving parts like the sliding surfaces of the bearing stones, the thread of the two handles and the bearing rolls for the printing plate. This will stop it from seizing up, making it easier to run prints through the press.
